Petersfield Branch – Fundraising Events

About us

The Petersfield & District Branch of Save the Children is one of the oldest and most successful in Great Britain and our 150+ volunteers mobilise twice a year to help with our two major fundraising events. These are The Big Sale and the 2 day Gift Fair. Our volunteers help us because not only do we raise vital funds for Save the Children’s work but we also have fun as a group in doing so. Not that we are competitive, but it is astounding that for a small market town, we rate annually as the best performing and highest fund-raising branch in the UK.

2017 is the branch Silver Jubilee year. It is the 60th anniversary of the branch’s formation and we celebrated this in some style in September at the Tythe Barn in Ditcham which we took over for the day with a Bridge event followed later by a celebration evening to say a thank you to all our volunteers and helpers.  We had the wonderful Petersfield Ukelele Band to set feet tapping after some speeches. It was great to be recognised by our Community Volunteering Manager, Fidelma Meehan, who was with us to congratulate us all on our efforts.

Other fundraising events are through talks to schools and groups, an annual Christmas concert to include the four Senior Schools in the Petersfield area, children’s shows and dances, bridge events, coffee mornings and auctions. We have had various one-off events such as the Family Fun Day at Queen Elizabeth Park. We are always open to new ideas and can provide help and staffing to our supporters who wish to fund-raise on our behalf.

Gift Fair

We have fun! We’re not stuffy or old fashioned and are always willing to embrace innovative ideas. We welcome new volunteers or any one who has expertise in an area that they could help us with—even if only for an hour! The Gift Fair is held up by the Charity Fairs Association as an exemplar to their members and is used as a model by Save the Children too. Some of our long serving (but not older) members have been recognised with medals from Princess Anne and others have attended the Save the Children’s 90th Birthday Party at Buckingham Palace. In 2013 we were honoured to receive a visit from HRH Princess Anne in her capacity as President of Save the Children, when she visited our enormously popular and successful Big Sale. One of our members was recently awarded the British Empire Medal for her unstinting service to Petersfield Branch.
